I've talked about Craft Hope before. Such a wonderful blog doing such wonderful things.
Their newest efforts involve wildlife in the Gulf. They have called on knitters and crocheters to make cotton washcloths to help clean oil from birds and other wildlife who are affected by the spill.
They're also okay with receiving old cotton t-shirts, rags, and flannel pieces, as long as they are the size of hand towels or washcloths. The cotton thing is definitely emphasized. Bonus points if you include a bottle of Dawn in your package.
This is such an overwhelming thing that has happened. And so devastatingly sad. This whole project feels concrete and doable, though, and helps me feel like I'm doing something good, even if it's very small. I also like knowing that there are so many other people out there doing small things, which all come together as something big, and that I can be a part of that.
You can get more information here about what they're looking for and where to send it.
Love, T.
