A Birthday Weekend

This weekend, Casy and I went home to celebrate my Mom's birthday, which was earlier this week. We ate some great food and had a wonderful time visiting with everyone, as usual!

To give you a break from my usually long posts, I'll try to take a mostly visual approach to this one.
Instead of a birthday cake, Mom wanted tiramisu...so that's what I made! You start by making zabaglione, which is Italian for egg-yolk-sugar-and-sweet-marsala-mixture.

Then, after the zabaglione cools, it's mixed with heavy cream and mascarpone cheese, layered with ladyfingers soaked in a coffee-brandy mixture, and sprinkled with cocoa powder.

And then, you eat it.

After we ate, Casy went out to harvest some raspberries from our patch by the rock wall. He was really good at it and this is what he came in with:

And here we are, thinking about raspberry compote, raspberry crepes, raspberry sauce on pancakes and ice cream, fresh raspberries in cereal...
The milkweed in the garden is doing very well and the bees are loving it!

And finally, some flowers from the backyard:

Love, T.
